From July 7 to 9, the partners of the O-City Project, have been able to enjoy a learning activity about Gamification, where we received these three talks:

  • Talk: “Cyber garden: an example of teaching teachers”, by Mª Asunción Pérez, where she explained the “Cybergarden” project, a collaborative project focused on teaching secondary teachers to enhance student’s motivation for Information and Communication Technologies
  • Talk: “Gamification in Education”, by Miguel Rebollo Pedruelo, PhD in Computer Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
  • Talk: “Gamification in the tourism industry”, by Juan José Ortiz, coo-funder and CEO of Amazing Up (2014), an innovative smart tourist destination company, which launched the first touristic gamification app in Spain. The company is focused on applying technologies of communication and information to the touristic sector, education and culture to achieve more social and interactive leisure time.

Thus, we have delved into this learning technique that transfers the mechanics of games to the educational-professional field to achieve better results, either to better absorb some knowledge, improve some skill, or reward specific actions, among many others. objectives.

This type of learning gains ground in training methodologies due to its playful nature, which facilitates the internalization of knowledge in a more fun way, generating a positive experience for the user.

With the game model, it is possible to motivate students, developing a greater commitment of people, and encouraging the spirit of improvement.

Thank you O-City for allowing us to delve into “gamification”!
