CITYVERSE TECHNOLOGIES, UPV’s O-CITY Spin-off, is Born
.
On Monday, February 9, 2026, the incorporation of CITYVERSE TECHNOLOGIES S.L. took place at the UPV Gandia campus. This spin-off from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) will drive and commercially exploit the O-CITYplatform for the digitalization of cultural and natural heritage on a global interactive atlas.
.
The company’s incorporation agreement was signed by UPV’s rector, José E. Capilla; professor José Marín-Roig, as the research partner; and the six founding partners linked to the project’s technological and business development: Lola Ángel, Marta Asensi, Daniel Burruchaga, Alexander Díaz, Jorge Marín-Roig y Pedro Monteros.

UPV’s Strategic Bet on Impactful Innovation

The establishment of O-CITY as a spin-off “reinforces UPV’s strategic commitment to applied innovation with social and territorial impact, capable of transferring university knowledge to the field of cultural heritage and making it accessible to citizens through digital technologies,” emphasized Rector José E. Capilla.

A Project Born and Growing at the Gandia Campus
.
Professor and researcher at the Gandia Campus, José Marín-Roig, noted that the signing of this spin-off—the first born at the UPV Gandia Campus—represents “a new challenge that gives life to a project born in our classrooms.” For his part, the campus director, Vicenç Almenar, highlighted that “this initiative demonstrates that cultural heritage and technology can go hand in hand, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship.”
The new company arises from the results achieved with the O-CITY technological platform, a European project driven from the Gandia Campus that enables the dissemination of both tangible and intangible heritage.
.
Expansion and Future
.
The team is currently working on new productions about local legends and stories from Valencian municipalities, as well as on international initiatives applying the same methodology, thereby extending the project’s reach and consolidating its working model.
The activity of Cityverse Technologies (O-CITY) will focus on offering comprehensive technological solutions that allow municipalities, cultural entities, and territories to digitize, narrate, and enhance the value of their heritage, traditions, and history. It will sustainably connect technological innovation, culture, and territorial development.
